Ladies who lunch

I've been anxiously awaiting Terri's post {here} about her trip to Houston last week. Do you recognize the two lovely ladies in this photo?

Yep, you got it... that's Joni {Cote de Texas} [insert BIG smiley face and a YAHOO...]
and Paloma {La Dolce Vita} and me {looking a bit frightful on the far left}.
And here is the wonderful Terri from Windlost.

You can read all about our afternoon together in Terri's well documented and photographed post here.

Just look at this gorgeous journal Terri brought us, what a sweetheart! Terri and I had lots of bonding time before and after lunch and by the end of the day I threatened to crash her upcoming romantic Paris getaway to hit the flea markets with her~ not kidding either! Ha.
All three women were such a treat and although our lunch took an extremely long time to arrive, I was perfectly happy in their company and could have stayed for hours.

Cheers~

The queen of my castle

While my abode may be humble and my kingdom may be minuscule ~ I possess the power to rule over the "what" and "where" within my four walls...{excluding the framed hockey jerseys hanging in the man cave- eek!}.

Heaven in the hills

Welcome to the beautiful home where I spent the first leg of my Spring Break vacation. Nestled in the Colorado foothills, just outside the town of Genessee, and overlooking the city of Denver. Our close family friends built this home almost fifteen years ago. It is always such a treat to visit, and a luxury to stay here for a long weekend.
The entire back of the home is windows, with a continuous deck running the width of the house. The sun was streaming in the morning I snapped pics.

I'll start with my favorite piece in their home. An antique Chinese wedding chest:

The front entry.

You get a glimpse of their unique wood front doors here.
Standing in the front entry area. The master bedroom is to the left, the rest of the house is to the right. Straight ahead, the grand, formal living room.

To the right of the living room you step down into the luxurious dining room.
Animal print walls, fireplace, leather dining room table and huge, lighted ceiling inset (sorry, you can just barely make it out here).
The powder bath off their main entry is amazing, and unfortunately my photos don't do it justice.

On into the kitchen, and family room. The open ceiling is just above the breakfast area. As you can see they have quite the collection of art in their home. The kitchen breakfast area is immediately off the main portion of the back patio. As you can probably imagine this is quite the party house {our wedding reception party was held here as well as my father's remembrance celebration}.

One of two kitchen islands pictured here. To the right of the photo you can see the stairs leading up to the guest quarters.A close up view of the breakfast table and outside patio.

You'll have to excuse the untidy kitchen but there was a lot of eating and drinking going on that weekend and not a lot of picking up after ourselves. :)
A close up of the pretty table vignette on one wall of the breakfast area.
And the opposite wall, just underneath the stairs leading up to our guest area.

A view looking back at the family room, right off the kitchen.

Looking into the family room.
From the garage entry into the kitchen, family room and dining room. Here you get a better shot of the recessed dining room ceiling.
Standing in between the family room and kitchen, up into the {bright} living room. To the left behind the family room are stairs down into the full, walkout basement. Just before the basement they have an office nook area, complete with gift wrap station {LOVE that!}. Their basement is set up to house a raised and enclosed media area, but seems that trend is out so lucky for them they haven't had it finished.

Click on picture to see full range of this room. All of their unique sculptures (most are bronze) and the built in media area next to the double sided fireplace (dining room on other side).
Now we're upstairs in the sitting area of the guest quarters.

Another view of the sitting area. There are two guest bedrooms up here, each with its own full bathroom.

The guest room where my mom stayed.
Love this antique gilded mirror.

This is the room where I stayed.
And my bathroom {of course she had fresh flowers for us!}.
Now let's head outside.

Their house sits a bit below the main {STEEP} driveway (luckily it's heated in the winter).

A view of the back upper patio (again, goes full width of back of house) and the lower, walkout basement.

Back patio area (whoa, must have had too much coffee...very shaky pics, sorry!).

From the back patio behind the main living room.
Aspen trees just outside the master bedroom patio.

There was talk~warnings of mountain lion attacks while we were there. After snapping these pics I heard something screaming in the wild and ran as fast as I could back up the {HUGE} hill to their home. Whew...that was a scary moment!

This is their neighborhood. So gorgeous!
It was only an hour drive up to Copper Mountain where we went skiing. Think bright blue skies, puffy white clouds, a slight breeze, and temps in the 30's~ dreamy skiing weather!

Hope you enjoyed the tour.
